As Secretary of the AWC I feel it is well within my responsibilities to write up the details of our most recent gathering.
That gathering was of course the 2006 AWC Annual Holiday Party at Lynn Vodnick's new home in North West Austin. Let me first say "Thanks Lynn" for providing such a wonderful venue for our gathering and "Congratulations" on your new home.
1) Attendance: I counted at least 25 people in attendance but there could have been more as I was heavily affected by bullet point 2. We had a diverse collection of infants, children and adults at this year's party.
2) Alcohol: There was plenty on hand including a full bottle of "El Barrilito" - Puerto Rican Rum - which did not survive the night. Beer, wine and fermented ciders were all also widely available and consumed by many - (even some of the adults).
3) Food: A more bountiful spread of dining delights could not have been conjured by Albus Dumbledore himself (the wizard from Harry Potter for all you too busy to read types) Thanks to all who brought something savory.
4) Giveaways: the nice folks at Sail-N-Ski provided a variety of $25 gift coins, a waist harness and an O'Neil wetsuit all of which were raffled off and distributed to members in attendance. Congratulations to all who won something special in this years raffle!
5) Music: The musical program was headed by new windsurfing Prodigy Karl Tinsley who pulled out his guitar and put on a very impressive show that had more than a few of the ladies dancing (but I observed almost everyone tapping there feet - even whiter than rice and rhythmless Tim Marvin!). Nicely done Karl!
6) Entertainment: Jon Penner dug deep into his electronics toolbox and rebuilt Lynn's VCR using a combination of paper clips, electrical tape and a wine glass. That was fortunate for all of us as we were treated to some super trick wake boarding from Mr. Penner's private video collection. To those who didn't know, Jon Penner is a world renowned trick wake boarder as well as a surfer and windsurfer. (Jon, it would be cool if you could post some of that footage on the windsurf club board for those who were too lame to attend this year's party.)
7) Embarrassing situations: The only embarrassing situation I noticed or was involved in was caused by an unfortunate mixture of alcohol, sailors and a string of Christmas lights. Needless to say, the Christmas lights did not survive the night and Guy Miller had to leave early.
Many thanks to all who attended!
Merry Christmas,
Brian Shepherd

Brian,
Good writeup. Thanks!
A few notes. The club provided the gift coins. Sail & Ski donated the Hammer Wetsuit top. The waist harness was left over from a previous drawing. My main "other" sport is just Trick Skiing (sans wakeboard - which is to hard on the 'ol knees). http://austinwindsurf.org/video/jontrick.wmv
